2022
Linden McCallum

Linden McCallum originally from South Africa grew up in the interior of BC where he was fortunate enough to experience the wonderful outdoors BC has to offer and enjoys spending his free time hiking, fishing, and camping. Science and technology have always been fascinating for Linden and he knew he wanted to pursue an education and career that incorporated those fields. After high school he attended Okanagan College in his hometown Salmon Arm for two years taking various science courses, Linden discovered Geomatics as an education and career opportunity through a geography course. The variety of outdoor and office work with emphasis on science, technology, and math were a perfect fit for him. He decided BCIT’s Geomatics program was the best way to start his education and after completing the first year of the diploma with the highest grades in his year he worked with a legal land surveying company in his hometown between first and second year. After completing the Diploma Linden will work in industry to gain experience before returning to further his education with the goal of becoming a British Columbia Land Surveyor or pursuing Geomatics opportunities in the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System industry.

2021

Céline Pierre

Née à Nancy, en Lorraine, Céline Pierre a servi pendant 10 ans dans la Marine Nationale française, comme sous-officier en télécommunications, avant de venir s’installer à Québec en 2010.

Voyageuse dans l’âme, photographe amatrice, amoureuse des grands espaces et du camping en tente à n’importe quelle période de l’année, elle aime par-dessus tout découvrir de nouveaux horizons. Après avoir grandi en Afrique, voyagé en Europe, en Inde, aux Émirats Arabes Unis, en Afghanistan, au Myanmar, c’est naturellement qu’elle décide de s’expatrier au Canada. Plus de 10 ans après, elle est maintenant fière citoyenne canadienne.

Après avoir travaillé dans différents domaines, elle effectue un retour aux études au Cégep Limoilou à l’automne 2018, en technologie de la Géomatique, et s’oriente rapidement vers le profil Information Géospatiale et Cartographie. Un accident de voiture en février 2019 occasionnant une commotion cérébrale a freiné son parcours scolaire mais pas sa passion pour la cartographie. Sa motivation, son goût pour les cartes thématiques, la photo-interprétation, les SIG, l’utilisation des drones, ainsi que son intérêt pour les nombreuses applications de la géolocalisation sont restés intacts. La géomatique lui apparait comme un grand terrain de jeu !

Elle achève présentement sa deuxième année de DEC et a très hâte de commencer à travailler dans ce domaine cet été. Dans l’avenir, elle rêve de pouvoir travailler dans le grand nord canadien, par exemple en participant à la cartographie maritime du passage du Nord-Ouest.

2020

Marie-Lise Roux

Marie-Lise Roux est originaire de la région de Nicolet, province de Québec. Elle parle Français, Anglais et aussi l’Arabe. Elle a fait un retour aux études en Août 2019. Elle a quitté Montréal en 2004, là où elle travaillait comme journaliste musicale, pour prendre la direction de l’Islande ! Elle y a passée plusieurs mois avant de continuer sa route vers le Maroc et ensuite l’Égypte où elle s’est installée pendant 5 ans. La plongée sous-marine est alors devenue son gagne-pain et ce travail l’a emmené à monter les échelons et arriver au niveau de Directrice de formation. Elle a donc par la suite formé, pendant plusieurs années, des Instructeurs de plongée en Thaïlande, au Sri Lanka, aux Philippines, en Afrique du Sud et en Indonésie. Après avoir parcouru le monde pendant 15 ans, elle est rentrée au Québec, à la maison, avec son conjoint et un petit bonhomme qui allait naître quelques mois après son retour. Et parce que la vie se doit d’être vécue, elle s’est ensuite dit que le temps était venu de donner vie à sa passion pour les cartes, la géo localisation et l’intégration des nouvelles technologies. La Géomatique s’est clairement montré être la meilleure option. Elle est donc sur le point de terminer sa première année au Cégep de Limoilou, Québec et elle débutera aussi cet été un stage avec le Ministère des transports du Québec. Et ce n’est qu’un début car il y a beaucoup à venir !

2019

Serianna Schroh

Serianna Schroh est née et a grandi à Cranbrook, en Colombie-Britannique, au cœur des East Kootenays. Cette petite ville rurale lui a permis de profiter quotidiennement des splendeurs de la nature. Serianna passe la majeure partie de son temps libre sur le bateau familiale à pêcher sur les rivières et les lacs de sa région. A l'automne dès qu’elle en a l’occasion, elle chasse dans les montagnes Rocheuses. Serianna est également membre du club de karaté Kyokushin depuis plus de 12 ans. Au secondaire, le dessin assisté par ordinateur était l’une de ses passions: elle a obtenu les meilleures notes de sa cohorte. Cette passion lui a permis au cours de sa dernière année d'école secondaire de vivre une expérience de travail chez McElhanney, où elle a pu observer plusieurs disciplines de l'ingénierie et de la géomatique. Elle fut instantanément attirée par l’arpentage, sachant que ce serait sa future carrière. Après avoir terminé ses études secondaires, Serianna s'est rendue en Australie dans le cadre d'un Programme jeunesse du Club Rotary. De retour au bercail, elle commence le programme de diplôme en technologie de l’ingénierie géomatique au BCIT, d’une durée de deux ans. Après le diplôme, Serianna décide de poursuivre ses études pour les deux prochaines années et de s’inscrire au programme de diplôme en géomatique. Elle vient de terminer sa troisième année du programme de géomatique. L'été suivant sa première année, Serianna a été embauchée par WSP où elle travaille sur le terrain, développant ses connaissances dans tous les domaines de l'arpentage. Elle entre maintenant dans son troisième été avec WSP et voyage au quatre coin de la Colombie-Britannique. Après l'obtention de son diplôme en avril 2020, elle a pour ambition de commencer un stage pour devenir arpenteur-géomètre en Colombie-Britannique.

Meghan McLellan

Meghan McLellan grew up in the Bulkley Valley, where she was fortunate to experience all of the natural wonders that abound in Northern BC.  She spent much of her time hiking and fishing at the family cabin which is where her love for the outdoors became apparent.  When she graduated from Smithers Secondary School, Meghan moved to Kamloops to take the Architectural & Engineering Design Technology program at TRU, with the long-term goal of becoming an Architect.  After her second year of University she was hired as a summer student by a Smithers surveying company, HBH Land Surveying Inc., and that is where she was first introduced to the world of Geomatics.  She went to TRU for one more year to obtain her diploma and then returned to work for HBH, an amazing company that kept mentoring her and expanding her practical office and field knowledge.  Because of this experience, Meghan changed her career goal to become a Surveyor.  After a year of travelling through Europe and Kenya, Meghan applied for the advanced placement Geomatics program at BCIT.  Meghan is just finishing her second year of the Geomatics program, and is planning on attending BCIT for two more years to obtain her degree in Geomatics.  This year she was one of 5 students from BCIT selected to attend the CHC-NCS Conference in Victoria where she could learn more about hydrography and all the amazing research happening in the industry.
